Bad Speed Date

Poetry is the word unbound

               flying freely from the heart

                              the soul

               unknowable        unchainable

                              its creation

               shaped with reluctance

                              and care.

Care what my heart

               academic rules   convention

                              or the shrill whine

               of the school marme

                              male or female.

Care what my soul – young man

               of your teachers rules

feel the poem I place before you

               if not look away

move on.

Free yourself – young man

let the word wash over you

               drenching            penetrating deep

follow it

               it will not follow you.
